What we're about

This group is open to anyone who would like to participate in or learn more about improvisation. No experience is necessary.

This group is dedicated to helping people of all experience levels learn about and practice improvisation in a safe creative space.

Regardless of worldview, gender, ethnicity, nationality, orientation, ability, experience level, etc. everyone is welcome to come out and try new improvised things!People of all experience levels are welcome!

Improvisation can be many different things:

•Improvisation as building confidence in your own ability to react to the unexpected,

•Improvisation as practice at “Thinking on your feet,”

•Improvisation as experience in work with other people towards a common goal,

•Improvisation as cultivating ones' ability to read immediate feedback and incorporate it into future choices.

Improv can also be very funny, hilarious, even, but it is first and foremost about being genuine.Genuine as the character(s) you are creating in a scene, genuine in your reactions to what is occurring in a scene, and genuine in all of our commitment to maintaining a safe, encouraging, creative, and open environment for learning AND play!

Join us to improve your ability to think on your feet, learn more about improvisation, let your fantastic weirdness come out to play, and/or just have fun while exploring new creative avenues and spaces!!!

Guests/spectators are welcome, and will be encouraged to offer suggestions to help create exciting and hilarious scenes!

Online Improv Games

Online event

We will gather online and play improv games in a fun, relaxed, and judgment free setting. All experience levels, especially no experience, are welcome! It should only require a camera equipped device, an adventurous spirit, and the link available in the “Online Event” section to join! Link is ONLY VISIBLE to people who RSVP to ensure a secure experience for all. (Please RSVP PRIOR to the start of the session to see the link, this is a MeetUp setting to prevent disruptive drop ins.) Online improv is definitely different than in person improv, but many in the improv community have worked hard to trim down the rough edges and provide opportunities for people to escape the current situation for a few hours, to laugh, and to have fun TOGETHER! Notes/Encouragements Specific to Online Improv: --Dropping into and out of the session as you need to IS FINE, we will include you in games as best we are able --Audience members/spectators ARE WELCOME! We just ask that they write “AUDIENCE” in their Zoom Meeting name --Audience members are free to watch and listen in WITHOUT their camera/video turned on --Participants are ENCOURAGED to make the most of their space! Get up, move around, wheel around, use the depth of field provided by the camera to play with the sizes of objects, etc. --Participants are ENCOURAGED to have silly hats, props, and/or costumes on hand! --Side conversations and comments, while a part of every in person improv MeetUp, can be more disruptive in this digital setting, as can visually disruptive actions, so please consider that and be respectful of the other people in attendance --Each session WILL CONTINUE for around an hour after the appointed end time, to make a space for chatting, catching up, and other human social contact activities which we all require to varying degrees at the moment During the online sessions, we will start with a quick chat about the spirit of improv, an introduction to the fundamentals of improv, and then warm up both body and mind with exercises practicing improv principles and the use of the “shared” online space. We will then play games to help learn each other’s names, games to be intentionally silly, and a combination of both smaller and larger group games; all while making sure that everyone gets an enjoyable amount of “stage” time. We will wind down with a final group game and end with a discussion of how the session went, what worked well, and what could have worked better, and an announcement of upcoming online improv events or other creative projects. Join us to improve your ability to think on your feet, learn more about improvisation, let your creativity come out to play, and/or just have fun in what some of our attendees like to call your “Weekly weird!” Guests/spectators are welcome, and will be encouraged to offer suggestions to help create exciting and hilarious scenes! Lastly, since a Zoom subscription does cost money, and it is a fair amount of work to create and maintain this online improv space for everyone, if you’d like to donate (ONLY IF YOUR CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW) you may do so here: https://www.paypal.me/trentshenanigans These online sessions WILL REMAIN FREE FOR EVERYONE to attend, so please do not let ability to donate stop you from attending. Everyone deserves a large dose of hilarious togetherness in these wobbly times. Looking forward to seeing/hearing you there!
