A career in data science – myths and obstacles in a rapidly growing field
Details
In this online event we partner with CLAIRE to talk about what it means to be a Data Scientist in a world full of possibilities.
Our panelists Magdalena Surówka, Marcela Ruiz, and Laura Tocmacov Venchiarutti will be answering questions about getting started in the field of data science, working in interdisciplinary data science, hiring diverse data science teams and the experience of working in a typically male-dominated field.
Bring your own questions to the live Q&A with our guests! Looking forward to seeing you there!!!
This event will be held online. A Zoom link will be sent out prior to the event to all registered participants.

Together with Zazuko, she builds Linked Data models. With her keen interest in education, she is also a lecturer a Propulsion Academy. She teaches the new generation of Data Scientists how to use statistics to build better machine learning models.
Magdalena holds a Master's Degree from Universität St. Gallen, Switzerland, and another Master's Degree from Jagiellonian University in Krakow, Poland.
Marcela Ruiz
Software Engineering Lecturer and Researcher at the ZHAW
Marcela's main focus in her research and teaching is software traceability for developing high quality software products. She holds a PhD in Computer Science from the Universitat Politécnica de Valencia.
In her experience as a researcher, she has consistently noted improved research outcomes when combining different study fields and the involvement of industrial partners. She strives for establishing persistent and fruitful interdisciplinary collaborations with research groups and companies around the world.
Laura Tocmacov Venchiarutti
Managing Director impactIA
The impact of Artificial Intelligence on work led Laura to co-found the impactIA Foundation. Her 20 years of experience in professional transitions led her, with the emergence of AI, to see the urgency of ensuring that artificial intelligence remains sustainable and at the service of humanity. The ImpactIA Foundation intervenes in this direction, focusing its actions on work, job displacement, human consequences and the frameworks necessary for a societal balance.
