In this edition of GPUG, we'll explore nginx — the web server quietly powering most of your PHP applications — and how understanding it better can make you a more effective developer. Rather than treating nginx as a black box managed by your DevOps team, we'll walk through how it actually works: from the structure of configuration files, to how requests get routed to PHP-FPM, to the powerful directives available right out of the box.
We'll also look at how we can solve real world problems by writing simple nginx configuration files. For many of these problems we often reach for PHP, but nginx can handle them faster, more efficiently, and without ever booting your application. Whether you've never opened an nginx config file before or you work with them regularly, there's something here for every skill level.
As always, it’s going to be a night full of learning and great conversations. Pizza and refreshments will be provided. Additionally, we have some great swag provided by Laravel to give away.
(As an aside, this is a talk I'll be presenting at PHPTek in May, so I would greatly appreciate any and all who come out and give feedback so I can make this talk as informative and entertaining as possible)

If this is your first time at the new location, this is the South-most building of the former RIM campus. When heading East on Labrador Drive, see the building on the right after The Timeless Material Company. The parking garage is closed, but there is parking on either side and on the roof of the garage. Once parked, you can find the entrance across from the garage.
