Astronomy Lecture: Geologic Maps of Pluto and Charon

Details
Please join the Mt. Diablo Astronomical Society for our July 22 general meeting featuring Dr. Oliver White, a planetary scientist at the SETI Institute and a resident at NASA Ames Research Center, who will discuss the geological terrain of Pluto and Charon revealed by the New Horizons spacecraft, which flew by the distant worlds 10 years ago. Dr. White will lead us on a tour of these frequently bizarre terrains using geological maps of their surfaces that the New Horizons team has created, and will explain what processes scientists think molded them into their present appearances. The meeting starts at 7:15 p.m. with a short “What’s Up?” presented by MDAS member Kent Richardson, who will discuss the legacy of astronomer Vera C. Rubin. Our meetings are held in the Lindsay Wildlife Experience Community Room, 1931 First Avenue, Walnut Creek, CA 94597
