MENDIP HILLS: Early People in Burrington Combe and Wartime Black Down

Details
Payment is in advance for this tour. Once you have booked your place on Meet Up, Steve will be in touch about paying the walk fee to secure your place.
On a Sunday we take a traditional countryside walk in the historic landscapes surrounding Bath and Bristol.
This week we will be walking six miles across the heights of the Mendip Hills in search of fine views across the Severn Estuary and spring flowers and butterflies.
The caves in Burrington Combe tell the story of our Mesolithic hunter gatherer ancestors. We will hear of a remarkable eighteenth century discovery.
We will also explore the wartime efforts to draw Luftwaffe bombers away from Bristol and how the people of the city took shelter each night in these caves.
A set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after our walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our walk across Burrington and Black Down in the Mendip Hills.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
If you would like to lift share from Bath or Bristol for this event please use the comments board below to facilitate this.
