Details
Payment is in advance for this tour. Once you have booked your place on Meet Up, Steve will be in touch about paying the walk fee to secure your place.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
Starting out in Chew Magna we will explore the story of this delightful little village. We will hear of the role the village played in efforts to save Bristol from Luftwaffe bombing. We will discover Church Ale House, which was built in the late fifteenth century and the Seventeenth Century School that is now the village hall.
We will then walk along the River Chew to the magnificent Chew Valley Lake, before walking over to Pensford via Stanton Drew Stone Circle.
A major of local history that lies within living memory is the Great Flood of 1968. Along the way we will hear some of the local stories from that Biblical event.
Our route takes in limestone grasslands. Expect butterflies and summer flowers.
Our circular walk is six miles long.
Our walk will introduce us to the Two Rivers Way.
As is our custom a full set of written notes will be emailed out after the walk to help you hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of these Chew Valley villages.
Lifts are usually available from Bristol and Bath. Please use the comment board below to facilitate this.
