NEW SUNDAY WALK: Combe Hay and the Somerset Coal Canal south of Bath

Think of Bath and you probably imagine Roman citizens luxuriating in the hot springs or the wealthy of Regency society promenading in the parks and along the crescents. Bath, however, has a much deeper and broader history than the one the visitors usually see. Join us for this journey into the past and find out more.

In the wooded valleys just to the south of the city around the village of Combe Hay there lies amongst the greenery the ghostly outlines of the Somerset Coal Canal.

Our walk will take us first to explore the canal locks around Combe Hay in their beautiful woodland setting. From there we will follow the disused canal towards Midford to look for further evidence. We will then retrace out steps and explore the Somerset Coal Canal further west, an area we have not walked in before.

In fact, half of the route for this walk is new territory for us!

AND we have a new pub stop for this walk: A quintessentially English country pub - The Wheatsheaf at Combe Hay.

The only uphill on this walk is well within our normal capabilities. We always take hills nice and slowly.

This circular walk is six miles long.

As is our custom a set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after the walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of the delightful landscape to the south of Bath.

A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
