Discover Neolithic Avebury: Sunset and Full Moon Rising

Details
Payment is in advance for this tour. Once you have booked your place on Meet Up, Steve will be in touch about paying the walk fee to secure your place.
Since October 2016 we have put on around 650 events all across the West Country and beyond. More than 500 different people have attended our events.
It all started at Avebury. Let's go back there to watch the sunset and the full moon rise.
Our tour of this enigmatic ancient landscape begins with a walk across country and up to West Kennet Long Barrow. Here, Steve will share insights into the lives of the people who built the chambered tombs of Western Britain over 5000 years ago.
We then walk into Avebury village along the infant River Kennet, one of numerous winterbourne streams on this porous chalk landscape.
In Avebury we will explore the largest stone circle in Britain and learn more about how, and possibly why, it was built over 4,000 years ago, before visiting The Red Lion Inn for a drink.
As the day draws to a close we will walk between the paired standing stones of the West Kennet Avenue and up onto Waden Hill where we will (hopefully) enjoy a fine sunset over Silbury Hill at around ten to five.
We will finish the evening walking into the dusk.
Avebury is less than an hour from central Bristol travelling east along the M4.
As is our custom a full set of written notes will be emailed out after the walk to help you hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of this ancient landscape.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
