Discover Corsham: A Delightful Wiltshire Market Town

Details

Payment is in advance for this tour. Once you have booked your place on Meet Up, Steve will be in touch about paying the walk fee to secure your place.

Corsham is one of the lesser known Cotswold towns and well worth an afternoon of discovery. The honey coloured Cotswold stone of this delightful little place radiates warmth and light.

In the town of we will visit the splendid estate church of St. Bartholomew’s as well as the seventeenth century Flemish weavers’ cottages.

The reason that we are visiting Corsham on this particular day is because the stunning Hungerford Almshouses (pictured above) are open to the public (and entry is free) as part of Corsham Heritage Open Days. Completed in 1668 and built by Lady Margaret Hungerford the almshouses housed six needy people. The schoolmaster's house and the schoolroom are available for us to visit, as well as the garden with its original covered walkway designed 'for the poor people to walk in the dry'.

We will take our refreshments in one of the fine old inns of Corsham.

And then we will go off for a walk in the country to explore the Corsham Court Estate, designed by Capability Brown

A set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after the walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of Corsham.
