Clifton Down Full Moon Walk

It is some time since we have done a night walk. Let's head up onto Clifton Down for some moon watching, a scary tale and lots of local history.
If the sky gods are kind to us then we will gain a very different perspective on Clifton Down under the light of the full moon as we stroll into the night.
Our two and a half mile walk will allow us to search out some of the lesser known stories of this intriguing place.
We will hear accounts of the people of the darkness, including lavatory attendant Victoria Hughes and highwayman Jenkins Protheroe.
We will consider the naming of places up on the Downs and dispel some long established myths.
The natural history of Clifton Down is fascinating. There are species of tree and flower unique to this location. We will hear of the associated folklore. We will also hear of the ancient fauna and flora of the Downs.
We will gaze down into Avon Gorge and view the illuminated Suspension Bridge .
We will consider the moon and the way in which people throughout time have perceived it.
We will finish our night time wandering with a visit to the Port of Call.
There are regular buses up to Clifton Down from the City Centre.
A set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after our walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of Clifton Downs by moonlight.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
