Troopers Hill Sunset and Full Moon Walk
Details
Why not join us for our popular monthly full moon walk as we stroll through the dusk and into the night? You will see the world differently in the darkness.
Our walk along the Avon River Trail from Netham Lock to Troopers Hill and back will be around two and a half miles in length. There is one hill, which has steps.
We will hear about the development of the Avon Navigation in the eighteenth century, and what the notorious Kingswood Miners thought of that. We will hear of the brass making industry and the origins of the Bristol Black Jacks.
We will (hopefully) watch the sunset from Troopers Hill over the City of Bristol
We will watch the full moon rise.
We will consider the moon and the way in which people throughout time have perceived it.
We will undertake some urban stargazing from the summit of Troopers Hill with its historic chimney.
There are regular buses from the City Centre to St. George, where we will meet.
A set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after our walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of Netham Lock and Troopers Hill by moonlight.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
