NEW Story of Bath: Romans, Saxons, Vikings, Normans, Tudors and Stuarts
Details
Building on the success of our Story of Bristol tours we are off to Bath for our Monday walk this week to pursue the Story of Bath.
On these Story of Bath sessions Steve shares his extensive research on the history of the city. There is also plenty of time to chat about interesting finds that we discover along the way.
We all know that Bath was a Roman spa town originally. Let's take a look at that before we move on to the town's border position between the Saxon kingdoms of Wessex and Mercia. What happened after the Norman Conquest of 1066? Let's find out.
Tudor architecture is really difficult to find, particulalry in a town such as Bath that has rebuilt itself over and over. Surely there must be some evidence from the sixteenth century. Did Henry VIII visit?
We will finish in the mid seventeenth century with the Civil War and the Battle of Lansdown (it was a draw) before concluding with the Restoration and the advent of water based tourism in the 1670s.
Come along and discover the Origins of Bath.
A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
A set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after the walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of Early Bath.
