Monday morning at 11:00

Why not join us as we continue our Story of Bath series of monthly Monday morning tours? This is a great opportunity to meet new people and get some exercise.

Having covered the origins of the City of Bath, the development of Georgian Elegance and Bath as an industrial city in the nineteenth century we are now making our way into the early twentieth century. .

We start out from Bath Spa railway station, which was an important focus early in the war as men gathered and became soldiers before moving on to France. The drill hall still stands where the soldiers prepared to fight.

More than 11,000 men of Bath went to war and 1,800 did not return.

We will explore what life was like for those who stayed behind. There was rationing and women took on new roles in efforts to maintain a certain normality.

We will visit the Cenotaph.

We will hear how the life of the people of Britain had been changed forever by this war to end all wars.

In total we will walk about two and a half miles around the city.

A set of written notes will be emailed out to walkers after the walk. This will allow you to hold on to what you have picked up from our exploration of Bath and the Great War.

A Walk in the Past is a friendly group where regulars and newcomers are always welcome. Our aim is to combine a good walk with pleasant company in historic landscapes.
