Beneath the low sky there is a field. At its edge two ravens speak, of those that have fallen and of those yet to be born.

Existing between worlds and between laws, the Borders are a mysterious place of secrets. Here time plays tricks on us all, as it cycles eternally through incarnations, reincarnations, history, myth and fairytale. Storyteller Nick Hennessey and singer Hannah Sanders invite you to follow them into a treasury of story and song hidden beneath the fields and fells, the burns and becks of the Northern Borders, and shed light on the dark memories of place and the places in-between.

NICK HENNESSEY is a dynamic and passionate performer whose love for the traditional culture of northern Europe forges together the note, the song and the spoken word into a unique, engaging style. An international performer, he has worked extensively at folk, storytelling and literature festivals across the UK and toured to Estonia, Sweden, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Canada and Japan. In London, Nick has performed at the Southbank, Barbican, the Albert Hall, and at the Soho Theatre. His performance of the Finnish national epic, the Kalevala, took the roof off The Forge venue in 2014, and we're delighted to be welcoming him back!

HANNAH SANDERS is fast building a reputation as one of the most exciting singers of folk song around. Hannah grew up travelling Europe singing unaccompanied folk songs in 4-part harmony with her family band, The Dunns. She then left music to pursue a career as a cultural anthropologist, becoming a leading expert on contemporary witchcraft and popular culture. She lived in Boston, MA where she sung with Liz Simmons (Low Lily). Her recent return to Britain coincided with a return to folk singing, accompanied on baritone dulcimer and guitar. Her debut Charms Against Sorrow was released in February 2015 to critical acclaim, with Mike Harding hailing it “absolutely fantastic...every track is a pearl!”
