Talk: Beyond compliance, meeting people’s needs

WCAG offers an excellent framework. It is a good foundation for ensuring websites work with assistive technologies and that content is understandable for everyone.

However, conducting usability studies involving users with a diverse range of needs is crucial to ensuring your website works for everyone.

We’ll cover inclusive usability studies, how we recruit participants, script sessions and report findings to enhance user experience ensuring that it’s not \*just\* possible for users to access your website but a good user experience is offered, regardless of how users are accessing your site.

Accessibility

The Location is accessible for wheelchair users. This includes the entrance (no steps to get into the location), toilets and the stage.

Captions:
We will provide live (human) captions during the event. The transcription will be displayed under the Slides. As this can be a bit small to read (3 lines of text), you can bring your own device (e.g. Tablet) to read it in your browser. We will provide a link for the transcription.

Those who would like to utilize the transcription on the big screen are recommended to sit close to the front of the board.

Caspian Turner is a digital accessibility specialist and director of Accessible by Design. 

Accessible by design is a digital accessibility consultancy working with arts and cultural organisations in Europe and North America. Before starting Accessible by Design, Caspian held in-house roles at Glyndebourne and Southbank Centre. 

Following this he was a Web Implementation Specialist at Tessitura Network and most recently held the post of Head of Strategy and Consulting at Substrakt. 

Caspian is a member of the International Association of Accessibility Professionals and an accredited Web Accessibility Specialist.
