First, a note from your organizers Jennison & Michael:

The A11yBay Meetup has always been about building community among digital a11y professionals and enthusiasts in the Bay Area. During this period where we are observing physical distancing and observing County regulations, we are temporarily moving to a virtual format because we want to try and maintain that sense of community that we have built-up over the last six years. We intend on and look forward to returning to our in-person Meetup format when it is safe to do so.

About this online meetup:

We thought we'd kick off 2020 by answering the proverbial question, “so how did you end up working in digital accessibility?” Come hear five-minute lightning talks from 12 a11y pros with a range of experiences. Each speaker will describe the personal and professional journeys that have brought them into their current roles and lessons learned along the way.

How to participate:

We'll be trying the video conferencing platform Zoom because it is more accessible than alternatives, although granted not perfect. Once you RSVP for the Meetup (or clear the waitlist), please email directly. We will reply with the Zoom link and password to use on the day of the event.

Event agenda & jobs:

6:50 – 7:00, Video conference goes online so you can sign on and check your connection (there will be no content during this time, so just connect and settle in)

7:00 – 7:15, Talking begins with Welcome, Job announcements, Job Seeker intros

7:15 – 8:15, Guest speakers' Journeys into Digital A11y

8:15 – 8:30, Q&A and Closing remarks

The evening will follow our usual in-real-life format. However, if you have job opportunities to share with the community, please email them directly to the organizers ahead of time at (include a description of the job and a point of contact or URL so people can follow up). Sending jobs in advance will help us run the livestream more smoothly.
