Greetings! We hope everyone had a restful holiday season or farewell to 2020. We're excited to gather 'round the zoom again for our first meetup of 2021! If you could use some community and togetherness right about now, we're here for you. 💕 ☮️
GUEST SPEAKER:
Join us for a presentation by Sheri Byrne Haber, VMWare's Accessibility Architect (she / her / disabled / determined person). Learn more about Sheri's work on Linkedin at https://www.linkedin.com/in/sheribyrnehaber/
TALK SYNOPSIS:
Crest is an open source tool that helps developers conduct better automated software testing. Today's web accessibility test automation tools catch about 30% of accessibility issues. Crest introduces 5 new automated tests—with plans for 26 more—for web accessibility issues that previously could only be caught manually. Learn what these are, along with how the tool was developed and how you can contribute to enhancing Crest.
EVENT AGENDA (in Pacific time):
7:00 pm — Event begins, welcome new members. Accessibility industry job announcements & job seeker intros.
7:15 pm — Talk: “Crest—An Open-Source Web Accessibility Test Automation Tool" presented by Sheri Byrne Haber, followed by Q&A.
8:15 pm — [Optional] Socializing & networking in zoom breakout rooms, for anyone who'd enjoy hanging out online after the presentation to chat with old friends & new meetup members.
ZOOM DETAILS:
• How to participate via zoom:
The Zoom URL will be shared via email [sent through meetup messages] with people who RSVP on meetup, and not published on this event page.
Check to make sure your email settings are enabled to receive "event updates from organizers" (https://www.meetup.com/account/comm/a11ybay/) in your account settings or you may not receive the message.
• How socializing in break out rooms will work:
We’ll use the zoom breakout rooms feature to give folks an opportunity to network and chat with others in smaller conversations with randomized participants (4-5 people per chat room).
Here's a help center article from Zoom on how to participate in break out rooms if they are unfamiliar to you:
https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/115005769646-Participating-in-breakout-rooms?
If you do not feel comfortable making conversation with other people during this meetup, we'll pause briefly after the main talks so you can log off. Those who want to chat just stay on the zoom!
