Tau Station: A Space Adventure for Everyone
Tau Station is a sci-fi themed massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), set in a dystopian future where the human race is fighting to survive. While it is a beautiful game with some amazing artwork, it works great as an accessible game because the text tells the story. This quick overview will tell you how we made Tau Station accessible, and will give a brief demo illustrating this.
Jason Crome is a 20 year veteran of the software industry, working on everything from Powerbuilder and SQL Server to Perl and PostgreSQL. He is currently a Technical Lead for All Around the World, serving as the project manager for the Tau Station MMORPG. He is also a member of the Perl Dancer development team.
Color contrast and alt attributes on npr.org
• Part 1: Learn how we are improving color contrast on npr.org. The process is also an opportunity to address existing technical debt.
• Part 2: An explanation about the "null" alt attribute value, and how it is helpful on images with visible - and therefore screen reader accessible - captions.
Todd Welstein is a UI Developer in NPR's Digital Media group, spending most of his time building and maintaining npr.org. He's worked on nearly all areas of the site, from the homepage to stories to Tiny Desk Concerts. He has a B.S. in Human-Computer Interaction.
