Appliances, barriers, and new accessibility standards

Details
Many of today's consumer products cannot be operated by someone that does not have good eyesight, hearing, or manual dexterity. New product features often bring new barriers, and manufacturers may discontinue helpful features at any time.
How can consumers, product teams, and accessibility professionals address these usability fails?
In this session, we will examine how inaccessible product design impact people with disabilities and different approaches to remedy this. We’ll gain a first-hand perspective from Lucy Greco, an accessibility expert and consultant and Dr. Chris M. Law, founder of Standard Accessibility Reporting, a new organization that addresses these issues by creating consumer reports for products’ accessibility.
Speakers
Dr. Chris M. Law is the lead organizer of the ICT Accessibility Symposium and the Digital Accessibility Legal Summit, two annual events featuring peer-reviewed papers and presentations from thought leaders in accessibility. He is also founder of Accessibility Track, an independent accessibility consulting firm.
Lucy Greco is an electronic accessibility expert and consultant from UC Berkeley who hosts a podcast about product accessibility titled Know Before You Buy: The Things We Love and Hate.
This event will have live-captioning and ASL interpreter. If you need accommodation for this event, please contact the organizers. We’ll update this event page to note any new details and accessibility information.
