Exploring accessibility in web map or data visualizations

Details

Join us Wednesday, March 23, 2022, at 1:00 pm as we explore the early design process of creating inherently inaccessible content, such as a web map or data visualizations, with Al Leonard (he/him), design lead at Sparkgeo.

AL's been the design lead at Sparkgeo for just over 4 years. Sparkgeo provides geospatial expertise to tech companies, primarily making applications that use web maps.

Back in the fall, Sparkgeo worked with the Accessibility Research Lab at Mohawk College to get a better understanding of how people who are blind and partially sighted perceive and interact with web maps for data visualizations. Our findings were published on our blog.

The topic of this presentation is to further explore the early design process of creating inherently inaccessible content, such as a web map or data visualizations. While there won’t be a single solution to how to make these accessible, Al hopes to get people to think differently about how to design data-rich applications.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

#a11yHAM events are free and open to anyone interested in discussing digital accessibility and inclusion. This Zoom event will include a live transcript created by Otter.ai Teams.
