Allie, Ava and Jennifer from User Research International will share learnings from running 100+ usability research sessions with blind, low vision, deaf, and hard of hearing participants. In this practical talk, we will cover considerations for conducting in-lab accessibility studies, including recruiting, session planning, lab set-up, and setting expectations with product teams. We’ll also have time for audience members to share their own experiences with accessibility research.

Bios:
Allie Deford is a UX Researcher at User Research International where she has experience working in a variety of spaces, from developer tools to accessibility research. She has been the project manager or lead researcher on 40+ accessibility studies in the last year. Ava Phisuthikul is a UX Researcher at User Research International where she has conducted usability studies with a diverse group of users including the blind/low vision and Deaf and Hard of Hearing communities, children, and software developers. She is passionate about leadership development for women and is involved in organizations that promote this goal including the Seattle chapters of Lean In, Junior League, and Levo. Jennifer Robbins came to user research after a career in corporate librarianship. Her passion for helping people access the information needed to do their best work led her to the UX field and a role as UX Researcher at User Research International where she has worked with several major clients in the Seattle area, helping to build better products for all users.
