Exploring WCAG - Session 1

Details

This will be the first of two meetup events that take a deeper look at the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) version 2.0.

In total, WCAG offers four principles in support of accessibility;

• Perceivable

• Operable

• Understandable

• Robust

In this session, we'll look at the first two principles: Perceivable and Operable. These guidelines ensure information and user interface components are both presentable and operable to a wide range of users.

We'll look at:

• Text Alternatives

• Time-based Media

• Adaptable Content

• Distinguishable Content

• Keyboard Accessibility

• Providing enough time

• Seizures

• Navigable

This session is geared primarily towards

• developers (yes, there will be code)

• designers (color contrast)

• user experience professionals (plenty of examples)

This session also provides value to site owners, project managers and quality assurance analysts. Attendees will walk away with a better understanding of what this WCAG principle means and how to reference the success criteria to their projects.

Use of Meeting Fees

The proceeds from meeting fees are intended to help offset costs of the meetups such as food, transcription services and other incidental costs. We often look for corporate sponsors for these costs but cannot always secure these for every meetup.

Seeking Sponsors and Donations

If you have contacts at organizations willing to help sponsor these services, please send them our way.

As always, donations are welcome and can be made through the meetup Web site at this address https://secure.meetup.com/a11ysea/contribute/
