Accessible and Assistive technologies represent a viable and effective tool that is leveraged by millions of people with disabilities across the world to access activities, participate in society, and navigate the everyday barriers in what is largely an inaccessible world. From avatar robotics to mobile phones, throughout this talk, you will learn some examples of research looking at how accessible and assistive technology can empower people with disabilities to fulfill their aspirations, and how disabled individuals themselves leverage their skills and creativity to maximise the impact of the technologies they access every day.

The goal of the talk is to showcase the insights from a series of projects that have looked at how people with disabilities leverage different assistive and accessible technologies to unlock opportunities ranging from employment to social life, art, and fun. She will talk about a series of innovations that she has worked on in the last few years, namely.

- The use of avatar robotics to access work in hospitality (based around research conducted at the Dawn Avatar Cafe in Nihombashi -Japan)
- Tactile toolkit for accessible digital literacy for children with different visual capabilities (based on research conducted with visually impaired developers and children in the UK)
- Novel approaches to bespoke wheelchair manufacturing in the Global South (based on research carried out with the NGO Motivation Kenya)
- Co-designed accessible technologies for creative practices (Based on recent international collaborations with disabled artists and art enthusiasts)

And there will be time for your questions.
This event will be virtual only.
