## Who do we exclude and who do we include, and who do we think about first?

PROJECT SOLIT has been practicing inclusive design with fashion as its starting point, engaging in ongoing dialogue and co-creation with a diverse range of people, with the goal of realizing an “all-inclusive society where no one and nothing is left behind.”

At the core of these activities lies not merely the act of “including someone,” but the fundamental question of who we are dividing people into groups and who we are placing at the center of our thinking in the first place.
Rather than viewing each individual solely through a single attribute or category — such as “people with/without disabilities” or “majority/minority”— we recognize that each person is a complex and multifaceted being.

Furthermore, it is not about one person “including” another, but rather about diverse individuals “existing together” from the very beginning.

## Practicing “Inclusive Design Based on Eastern Philosophy”: Examples of Co-Creation with Companies

At SOLIT, we have incorporated this philosophy —which we also refer to as “Inclusive Design Based on Eastern Philosophy” and “Diversity”— into our actual product development and co-creation efforts with companies and organizations.

In this session, we will introduce everything from the background behind the creation of PROJECT SOLIT and the philosophy underlying our activities to the inclusive design practices we have undertaken and examples of co-creation with companies.

## Let’s Think Together About “What Kind of Society We Want to Create”

Furthermore, we’ll discuss the questions that have emerged through our practical work—including our efforts to investigate and research these issues and share them with society, the zines we’ve created based on this work, and our ongoing “DEI Studio 2026” project—to explain what questions SOLIT is currently exploring and how we plan to turn them into concrete actions.

Through PROJECT SOLIT’s past and current practices, we hope this will be an opportunity to reflect with you on accessibility and inclusive design—not just in terms of the methods themselves, but starting from the fundamental question:

“What kind of society do we want to create?”

Accessible, Hybrid, Multilingual Meetup
A11yTokyo Meetup is a unique meetup that features various genres of 'accessibility', conducted in a hybrid format of on-site and online broadcasting, primarily in Japanese and English.

Many foreigners participate in the on-site venue in Tokyo, building networks through socialization sessions. We use the voice recognition technology app 'UD Talk' to provide real-time captions, and its automatic translation feature allows for multi-language subtitle translation.

In past Tokyo venues, many Japanese and foreigners have participated. The post-session networking opportunity is a chance to build a global network! Additionally, people from various countries participate online from both within Japan and abroad.

Speaker Profile
Misaki Tanaka
Representative, PROJECT SOLIT

In the wake of the Great East Japan Earthquake, she took charge of an information support project for evacuees from Fukushima Prefecture who had relocated outside the prefecture. In 2013, under the motto “Updating Disaster Preparedness,” she founded the General Incorporated Association “Disaster Prevention Girls,” and the organization’s operations were successfully transferred in 2020.

In February 2018, she founded morning after cutting my hair, Inc., a planning and design firm specializing in solving social issues. In 2020, she founded SOLIT, which provides ongoing support to companies in Japan and abroad and launched a fashion service centered on inclusive design.

She is a serial social entrepreneur and social designer engaged in research and practice related to natural disasters, climate change, human rights, and DE&I. She is the author of *Wearing Unconventional Kindness* (Life Science Publishing).
