Hi Chicago! I Hope we all enjoyed a great summer. We'd like to start Fall with a series of Meetups and want you to be a part of the discussion. Please RSVP as soon as possible and we look forward to seeing you!

-----------

Most will agree the the phrase "out of the box" does not apply to OpenStack. Deploying the technology is a serious investment in both time and resources for any organization looking to build a private cloud. Now consider that more of these organizations are trying to build clouds that host virtual machines AND containers, and with separate networking and orchestration.

If you believe that the “OpenStack or containers?” debate is unproductive so do our presenters for this meetup.

Driven by a customer use-case Dell, Midokura and Platform9 teamed up to deliver a solution that simplifies OpenStack management, deploys at scale in less than an hour and ...wait for it... unifies Kubernetes and OpenStack workload management within a single interface.

What should attendees expect to learn?

• How to deploy a L3 Clos network with an Open Source NetworkOperating System on Commodity Switching

• The cost benefit of a "semi-managed" OpenStack cloud

• How leveraging routing on the compute to minimizes the deployment of complex features (MLAG, etc.) and simplifying operations of the fabric at scale

• Advantages of unifying the overlay SDN network agents for both containers and virtual machines and experiences

• how to leverage quagga on the compute nodes and, and how the SDN network agents bind to Loopback address with two default routes, to provide full redundancy across two compute interfaces that is more advantageous than MLAG.

Live Demo: Assuming all goes well (..gulp..) attendees will see how compute nodes can be deployed with networking in minutes providing tenant isolation, load balancing and security for K8s across multiple hosts as deployed today in our real-world customer data center.

Our Speakers:

Robert Collura is a Systems Engineer with Platform9. Robert is passionate about enabling IT organizations to deliver self-service private clouds that are easy to consume and provide a great end-user experience. He enjoys helping customers become fluent with OpenStack as well as Open Source technologies within their organizations. Robert believes IT organizations can realize OpenStack’s potential when deployed as a managed SaaS offering. He resides in San Francisco and spends his leisure time sailing on the bay and enjoying California wine country.

Cynthia Thomas is a Systems Engineer at Midokura. Her background in networking spans Data Center, Telecommunications, and Campus/Enterprise solutions. Cynthia has earned a number of professional certifications, including: Alcatel-Lucent Network Routing Specialist II (NRS II) written certification exams, Brocade Certified Ethernet Fabric Professional (BCEFP), Brocade Certified IP Network Professional (BCNP), and VMware Technical Sales Professional (VTSP) 5 certifications.
