Stan for Clinical Meta Analysis

Details

Our August meetup will feature at Talk from Daniel Lee and Eric Novik about Stan and BayesFlow with examples for Clinical Meta Analysis.

Title:

Stan for Clinical Meta Analysis.

Abstract:

Stan is an open source probabilistic programming language that was released in 2011 by a small team of developers at Columbia University. Today, Stan has thousands of users across many industries and is growing rapidly.

Stan includes a flexible modeling language for expressing statistical models and a set of inference algorithms, most notably HMC with NUTS which is revolutionizing high dimensional statistical computing. Stan also includes a set of ODE solvers developed in collaboration with Novartis that are particularly useful in Pharma and other industries that are interested in mechanistic models.

At Stan Group we are in the process of developing BayesFlow, a model as a service platform that will be available in the cloud and on prem with the focus on data integration, exposing models to specialists and non specialists alike, running many models in parallel, and streaming posterior draws to a high-performance database for building end user decision dashboards and predictive APIs.

In this talk will focus on a clinical meta-analysis model and highlight all the steps of Bayesian analysis, emphasizing which parts of the workflow we are automating with BayesFlow. Spoiler alert -- we do not automate model building and we do not hide models from users!

Speakers:

Daniel Lee is a Stan core developer and applied Bayesian statistician. He’s worked on Stan from the start, maintains the Math and Stan libraries and CmdStan, and contributes to RStan and PyStan. Dan is also the CTO of Stan Group responsible for BayesFlow architecture and development. Eric Novik is the CEO of Stan Group and an applied Bayesian statistician. He is responsible for the overall direction of the company.
