April Laravel Meetup - Twofer Thursday - SMS Alerts, Authentication in L5.2+

For this meetup, we will have two presenters! Many of you know Chris who will be talking about Authentication in Laravel 5.2+. After that, brand new member Jon will be presenting on how his PlayTimes.org (http://www.gametimez.com/demo/) platform uses Twilio's SMS to provide updates to their users.

Authentication in Laravel 5.2+

Laravel 5.2 introduces the ability to define multiple different authentication providers. These make it easy to define distinct user types and roles within a single app control how they get in, and determine who gets access to what. In this talk, we'll explore the new system and discuss some of the more interesting use cases.

How to Incorporate SMS text alerts into your Laravel site

I will be demonstrating how we incorporated Twilio's SMS Rest API into our Laravel installation on the PlayTimes.org (http://www.gametimez.com/demo/) platform. PlayTimes enables anyone to find and create pick-up games, like meetup but only for games. We added an incredibly awesome feature giving users the ability to receive a SMS text message if a game is created in a specific city they want to know about. For example, I receive a text when an Ultimate Frisbee game is created in Silver Spring, MD. I will show how we work with Twilio and where we added the code within Laravel.
