Tobias Mayer - The Myth of Leadership

Details
Prompt 1830 start.
Tobias Mayer, author of The People's Scrum, 'an explorer of human relationships, a writer, mentor, teacher and speaker,' is coming to talk to us at WASPS!
We're absolutely delighted to welcome Tobias! In Agile circles he needs little introduction, but for those of you new to this, he is deeply skilled and experienced, and offers tremendous insights. His illumination of the need for a more human approach to business, and of speaking truth to power, is second to none.
Tobias will be facilitating a discussion on The Myth of Leadership:
"Leadership is a word much loved in the corporate world these days. We have servant leaders, thought leaders, fearless leaders, open leaders, and tribal leaders, to name but a few. We have leadership rules, leadership laws, leadership principles, and leadership lessons. Indeed, we have embraced the leadership story wholeheartedly. But it is just a story, a myth.
Along with many other terms in the corporate vocabulary, Leadership is yet another nominalisation, cast as such for the sole purpose of elevating individuals to a place above the now outmoded 'manager' role, and perhaps as a side benefit, selling more corporate training and certifications. We need to take a close look at this cynical attempt to separate workers into leaders and followers, which is not a million miles away from the ideal work world of 'white collar' and 'blue collar' workers envisioned by Frederick Winslow Taylor during the Victorian era.
This short session will use prompts and small group dialogue to explore our current concept of "leadership", and perhaps reveal something beyond the buzz word."
The event will be over Zoom, and I'll send details to attendees who have RSVPd tomorrow afternoon after RSVPs close.
!815 for an 1830 start, please be prompt! Thanks.
