Erlang OTP framework, RethinkDB, and Phoenix Channels

Details
This month, Preston (https://www.meetup.com/Austin-Elixir/members/8326189/) will be showing off the Erlang OTP framework (http://www.erlang.org/doc/), and how to use it to build reliable, fault-tolerant software with Elixir. After introducing OTP, Preston will then jump into a quick demonstration of what you can build with OTP by showing how to combine RethinkDB (http://rethinkdb.com/) Changefeeds (http://rethinkdb.com/api/javascript/changes/) with Phoenix channels (http://www.phoenixframework.org/docs/channels) in order to push tweets from the database to the browser.
Preston jumped into the software world by teaching himself software development in order to build a product that assists emergency managers. After a six year stint building healthcare software in Birmingham, Alabama, he has rediscovered his passion for disaster relief by joining Reaction Housing (http://www.reactionhousing.com/) as their Principal Back-end Engineer. In addition to his experience with emergency management, Preston brings with him over seven years of experience with dev-ops, Ruby on Rails, Javascript, and other web technologies. In his off time, he enjoys listening to experimental electronica and hip-hop, cooking, functional programming, and training Ruby, his Shiba Inu puppy.
