Tim Harper - Akka Clustering on DC/OS (Mesos)

In this presentation, Tim Harper will give an overview of Akka Clustering. We'll discuss cases in which it is useful (and not). Along with the strengths of the approach, we'll also talk about some pitfalls and other things to watch out for, such as split-brain and message overflow, along with some strategies to help avoid these scenarios. Finally, we'll discuss deployment strategies and monitoring using fully open source software, deploying a live, full-stack working demo on DC/OS.

About Tim:

Tim Harper is a long-time fan of the Scala programming language. After leading the adoption of Scala at a small company (SpinGo), he helped Vivint deploy Mesos in order to scale their new Akka-clustering-based Smart Assistant backend. Currently, Tim writes Scala for Mesosphere, developing Marathon, an open source scheduler for Apache Mesos (both of which are core DC/OS components).
