Details
HIGHLIGHTS

- Dashwood Mausoleum
- Hell Fire cave
- Hughenden Manor
- Lacey Green Windmill
- Visit a local pub for a drink before heading home
DESCRIPTION
We commence our hike from Saunderton train station where we quickly ascend into the Chiltern Hills an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). We traverse through Hearton Wood before reaching the impressive Dashwood Mausoleum built in the 18th century by Sir Francis Dashwood, a member of the notorious Hell Fire Club. Departing the Mausoleum we pass the entrance to the mysterious Hell Fire caves with its flint facade.
We meander through the beautiful countryside to Hughenden Manor, now a National Trust site, but formerly the home of 19th century Prime Minister Benjamin Disraeli. Leaving Hughenden we wonder through the Chiltern countryside and pass through the Horse Trust Stables where many working horses and ponies fine retirement and respite.
We continue on into the woods and through further countryside passing Lacey Green Windmill the oldest surviving smock mill in England. From there we continue back to Saunderton, heading to a cosy pub for a drink before heading home.
