BEGINNERS HIKE: Wander to Windsor Castle via the Thames and Magna Carta site

Details
Join us for this leisurely Sunday wander along the River Thames to Runnymede, through Windsor Great Park to the sweeping vista of Snow Hill, and on to Windsor Castle, with all its splendour.
DESCRIPTION
Starting in Datchet, the route quickly opens onto peaceful stretches of the River Thames, where swans glide by and rowing boats cut across the water. The path is level and easy to follow, making it accessible for most walkers, while offering sweeping views across the water and meadows.
A highlight of the journey is passing Runnymede, the famous meadow where King John sealed the Magna Carta in 1215. Today the site is marked by memorials and sculptures that commemorate this defining moment in the history of liberty and democracy. Taking a moment to pause here connects you with the historical significance of the place.
We’ll then meander into the vast expanse of Windsor Great Park, where ancient oak trees and open parkland provide a striking contrast to the riverbank scenery. The path gradually climbs towards Snow Hill, offering one of the most memorable views in England stretching straight towards the towers of Windsor Castle.
After descending toward the castle, we’ll enter the cobbled streets of Windsor, where there’ll be an option to go for a riverside drink or take the train home.
This walk blends natural beauty, riverside tranquillity, and centuries of history into a rewarding journey through England’s heritage.
