Wander to Robertsbridge: Beautiful countryside, smugglers lanes & tiny villages
Details
Join us for a captivating hike through the heart of the High Weald as we explore the landscapes that inspired Rudyard Kipling. From high ridges we’ll glimpse the hill said to have sparked Puck of Pook’s Hill, while the towering Sussex trees and quiet valleys bring his storytelling world to life.
We’ll stop in Burwash for lunch in a village once notorious for smuggling and lively inns, and where there are Kipling connections everywhere, along with the home of The Cure's Robert Smith.
We’ll pass oast houses, historic forges, secluded farmsteads, Norman churches and Socknersh Manor – the former 1960s party retreat of Sir Tom Jones and Engelbert Humperdinck – before descending into Robertsbridge, for well-earned optional drinks at the quirky Ostrich pub
