AI: Beyond the Hype and Into Reality

Details

As the saying goes:
If it is written in Python, it's probably machine learning.
If it is written in PowerPoint, it's probably AI!

Is AI nothing more than an empty promise? The concept of "intelligence" is entirely subjective and intrinsically human, and some people argue that the term artificial intelligence has no place in science or engineering.

At this event, our two speakers will go hard against empty promises and marketing blunders as they peel off the layers that make up "AI".

Talk #1 -- Henrik D. Kjeldsen

We start by discussing the claim that human-level AI is computationally intractable, and that a fundamental paradigm-shift across science is necessary to explain how the brain is able to achieve what computers cannot.
We then look at our latest research tools and research aimed specifically at reverse-engineering how the brain might achieve tractability, and present some resulting ideas for an updated scientific paradigm.
Finally, we outline our ongoing efforts to create AI hardware platforms based on these new ideas.

Ing. Dr. Henrik D. Kjeldsen is an engineer and neuroscientist working on reverse-engineering the brain in order to build better AI. He studied AI in the Netherlands during the last AI winter, where he realized that the best way forward would be through understanding the brain. This led to PhD studies in the UK in experimental and computational neuroscience, where he pioneered brain imaging with near-field electromagnetic holography. He has since generalized these techniques to so-called super-resolution EEG, which is now commercialized by the San Francisco startup, TRUUST Neuroimaging. Henrik currently teach machine learning and innovation at Aarhus University School of Engineering.

Talk #2 -- Ali Khatam

35,000 is the number of decisions made by humans every day on average. Most of them happen without our awareness while others are more demanding but also more impactful. In this talk you will hear about how decision science -- a unique cocktail of machine learning and decision optimization -- can and will revolutionize your mindset and the results of your decisions.

Ali is the co-founder of QAMPO, a company working with stocastic decision science and machine learning. He holds a M.Sc. degree in mathematics, economics and operations research specializing in locical inference as the basis for optimizations and consequence analysis.

He has a great interest in solving problems, and has worked with data most of his career. He is proudly trying to remove the bullshit from the AI hype!

This Meetup is organized in collaboration with Infinit.
