Blockhead meet Blockchain

Blockchains are everywhere and - if you listen to the devotees - you're an idiot if you aren't mining *coin already.

But what is a blockchain, what does it hold, how does it work? I'll be exploring the ideas behind the block chain and hopefully have some Perl examples.
