We'll be exploring southwards from Clapham Junction at a reasonable pace for a planned lunch stop at a Surrey town pub then looping back for even more adventures to our starting point.

The terrain will be an interesting blend of parks, rivers, trails and some friendlier Surrey Hills. You may want to bring a camera with you to capture the beautiful views.

This ride may be ideal for Bikers with road bike tyres who want to gradually build up some saddle mileage before longer events this season such as the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 (http://www.prudentialridelondon.co.uk/), Dunwich Dynamo (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunwich_Dynamo) and Chase the Sun (http://www.chasethesun.org/) whilst socialising with fellow Bikers en route.

Attending Bikers will have the options of downloading map route files plus sharing live geospatial feeds en route with a GPS location tracking application.

We meet within Clapham Junction train station entrance near Caffe Nero at 10.00 am. Clapham Junction is directly accessible with bikes by train and the London Overground plus interlinked with several other lines including Victoria and Brompton Road tube stations via the District, Circle lines and the DLR. For those cyclists who do not wish to do the whole route there will be a few train stations along the route, so if you wish to join us for part of the ride and then take the train back en route you are welcome to.

No one will be left behind, however if you are struggling to keep up then we will point you in the direction of the nearest station. Line of sight or electronic means of contact will be intended to be maintained throughout the ride. Nevertheless, in case you have to bail or get dropped for some reason, it may be advisable to carry a smart phone/satellite navigation device and make yourself familiar with software and websites that are capable guiding you back home via GPS and train journey planning such as Transport for London (http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/) and National Rail (http://ojp.nationalrail.co.uk/service/planjourney/search).

This ride is more suitable for geared bikes without suspension (activated) due to steep Surrey Hills gradients and intended pace on rural roads plus country lanes. It can be done more efficiently with between 20mm to 32mm road bike tyres that can handle some light off roading too.

This meetup will be weather dependent so 12 hours before the event begins if heavy rain or strong winds are forecast then the event will be cancelled, please check this website and your emails the evening before the event begins.

Helmets, lights and a spare inner tube will be compulsory. Every week someone has a puncture.

For peace of mind, if your bike is relatively expensive and/or insured it may be advisable to bring a lock for the lunch stop. We aim to keep bikes close and secure, although depending on seating availability on the day we may not have direct line of sight of bikes during lunch.

Please do not put your name down unless you are serious about attending. If you repeatedly put your name down for rides and then pull out or don't show, you will automatically be put on the waiting list for future rides.

As some of you are into the Internet of Things (IoT) too, you may be interested to know on the day my personal area network (PAN) may consist of ANT+, Bluetooth with wide area network (WAN) connectivity to GPS and HSDPA signals.

Tethered hardware may include cadence & speed sensor,
smartphone plus a wearable GPS device, heart rate monitor and headset.

What wearables will you be carrying on the day?

This challenging Surrey Hills ride might result in a file of
