What we’re about
This group serves to provide a sense of community and opportunity to foster friendships with like-minded individuals. People who enjoy hiking, backpacking, mountaineering, and other outdoor/physically-active activities in NM.
The majority of events held are focused on hiking and you can expect to see a difficultly (easy, moderate, or hard) associated with each event. Event hosts are not certified guides however, so you will be expected to hold your own.
If you're seeking an easy (entry level) hiking opportunity with lots of socializing to make new friends while getting outdoors, then we encourage you to start out with our weekly sunset hiking series. Be sure to inquire about our thriving Discord server (with hundreds of members) when you attend one of our hikes, so you can connect with folks directly to plan other adventures and further strengthen your new friendships.
(And for the avid pursuers of social activities, such as city exploration, games, food/drink, movie nights, playing sports, and much much more - we encourage you to check out our sister group - ABQ 20s and 30s Social)
We hope to see you soon!

See all- (Hard) Full Moon Hike - Lake Peak Loopmeet at target on Paseo and I25, Albuquerque , NM
Join me for a full moon hike up Windsor Trail to Ravens Ridge and then up Deception and Lake Peaks. We'll loop back down the ski slopes to the Ski Santa Fe parking lot. Here's a rough map on Gaia.
Mileage: 5.5-6 miles
Elevation Gain: 2620 ftThe sun sets at 8:22pm. We'll aim to start hiking by 7ish, so we can be above treeline to watch the sunset/moonrise. We'll hike down in the dark, hopefully by the light of the moon (sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't - if the moon is obscured, we'll use our headlamps). The hike down is pretty steep and doesn't really follow a clear trail until we get down a ways (sometimes I just miss the trail). I expect this hike to take 4 hrs max, so we should be back in Albuquerque around 12:30 at the latest (earlier if we hike faster).
Make sure to bring layers (including a rain jacket if the weather calls for it), snacks/water, and a headlamp. Try to use your headlamp on the red setting, so we don't ruin our night vision.
Dogs are welcome, but I highly recommend leashing them once the sun sets. I will be bringing my dog.
We'll meet at the Target on Paseo to carpool at 5:05 We will leave no later than 5:15. Or you can let me know that you'll meet us at the trailhead (Ski Santa Fe) around 6:45, so we can be hiking by 7.
We've been getting pretty good monsoons this summer, so there is the possibility it will get rained out. If that's the case, I will try to find another location within the same driving distance (or closer), so we can pivot, but I will cancel if we need to.
- (Hard) Wheeler Peak Summit HikeWheeler Peak Trailhead, Taos Ski Valley, NM
Details
Join me for a scenic and challenging hike to Wheeler Peak (13,161 ft), the highest point in New Mexico, located in the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains near Taos Ski Valley. This route features alpine lakes, rugged terrain, and stunning panoramic views from the summit. This will be my first time hiking this trail, so it will be as much an exploration for me as it is for you.🔹 Trail Overview:
We’ll be hiking Wheeler Peak via Williams Lake Trail, a ~8.5 mile round-trip route with approximately 2,900 feet of elevation gain. The trail begins at the Williams Lake Trailhead in Taos Ski Valley and climbs steadily through alpine forests to Williams Lake. From there, we’ll continue on a steeper, rockier route up to Wheeler Peak. Expect some loose rocks and moderate exposure near the summit, but no technical climbing.🕒 Pace & Expectations:
Start time is at 8:00 AM, aiming to finish around 3:00 PM. We’ll maintain a moderate pace of ~1.5 mph uphill. While it’s not a technical route, the elevation and altitude can make it feel strenuous—be prepared for high-altitude hiking.⚠️ Caution: Altitude & Preparation Required:
This hike tops out at over 13,000 ft, where the air is thin and altitude sickness is a real risk. The elevation gain, distance, and high-altitude environment make this a strenuous effort even for experienced hikers.
If you are not already acclimated to high elevations or have not done similar hikes recently, this is not the hike to “see if you can do it.” Symptoms of altitude sickness (headache, nausea, dizziness, and fatigue) can set in quickly and should not be ignored. Only join if you are physically conditioned and/or have already done some hikes above 10k ft this year.- Consider hiking nearby peaks in the 10,000–12,000 ft range in the days/weeks prior (e.g., Lake Peak, Santa Fe Baldy, Sandia Crest, Mt. Taylor, etc.) to help acclimate.
- Spend the night before at high elevation to adjust—there are dispersed camping options along the road to Taos Ski Valley and primitive sites near Williams Lake.
🏕️ Camping Option:
For those wanting to stay nearby the night before, we’ll be camping at a dispersed site near the trailhead or in the Taos Ski Valley area. This will also help with acclimation. Details and GPS coordinates will be shared prior to the trip.📌 Trail Info:
