8 MILE CHALLENGE LOOP HIKE IN CIBOLA NAT'L. FOREST!!
Details
Dear fellow vegan hikers (NOTE: this is an event for vegans and aspiring vegans only!!!), if you are a very fit hiker, join me for this wonderful loop trail in the Sandias!
Here is the data:
Tree Spring, 10k, Golden Eagle, and Challenge Loop
8.1 mi length
1,486ft elevation gain
4–4.5hr (I did it in 4, with a couple short breaks)
Average, steady pace of 2 miles an hour, so you MUST be a strong and experienced hiker!
NOTE: UNLESS YOU HAVE A PASS, YOU MUST HAVE $5.00 CASH TO PAY FOR PARKING AT THE TRAILHEAD.
Be sure to also come prepared with sturdy hiking boots--there are some rough and rocky parts-- poles if you have them, hat, plenty of water, snacks and sunscreen.
No dogs, please!
The trail is mostly in forests, though does traverse through the open runs of the ski area. When I did this in April, I saw beautiful wildflowers, a couple of deer, and plenty of lush foliage... lots of sweetly chirping birds as well! Spring is the perfect time for this hike!
I am slow-but-steady going uphill; moderately fast on the level and downhill parts.
PLEASE ONLY SIGN UP IF YOU ARE A VERY FIT HIKER, prepared to do about 4 miles of consistent uphill--remember, the elevation gain is close to 1500 feet!!!
PLEASE also consider signing up for the dinner that follows at Trail Riders in Cedar Crest; I have created this dinner as a separate event so that people not prepared to do the hike could join for dinner afterwards.
Also, if anyone wishes to carpool from Smith's on Tramway at 12:20 pm, send me a message and I will try to arrange this. Payment of the driver(s) will be required-- likely $5.00 plus your portion of the parking fee of $5.
We will leave PROMPTLY from the trailhead at 1 pm, so if you are late you will be left behind!! (Better to arrive early, of course!)
PLEASE also answer the questions that come as part of the requirement attached to signing up for this event!!
Thank you... Sheri
