About us
Hello! This is a quarterly event for people who like playing abstract strategy board games or want to try them out for the sake of something new. All experience levels are welcome.
** If you own or are connected with a venue ~30m of Sanford, or ~10m of Winter Park, and may be interested in hosting my quarterly Abstract Strategy Games group, please get in touch. Parks, gardens, pavilions, breweries, coffee spots, restaurants, community centers, libraries... **
I'll be bringing:
- Chess: strategic board game to checkmate opponent's king
- Chinese Checkers°: race to move marbles across the board
- Decrypto: team game communicating codes without interception
- Dominos: tile-matching game connecting ends with matching values
- Go*: territorial strategy game capturing board area
- Mancala*: picking up and sowing stones to capture
- Onitama: martial arts strategy using rotating move cards
- Oraklos: abstract tactical game focused on positioning
- Shobu*: stone-moving strategy played on four boards
- Tzaar: abstract stacking game to deplete opponent's pieces
- The Royal Game of Ur+: ancient race game to reach the finish line
- Quoridor*: maze-building race to reach the opposite side
Materials: ° = tin, * = wood, + = cloth
You can bring your own game along, too. First, please Google: "Is [game name] an abstract strategy game?" to see if its right for this.
This will be a quarterly event. Members are welcome to set up other times to meet with each other. To cut down on emails, please use direct messages to coordinate.
Any questions, reach out.
See you then,
Emily
P.S. If you're interested in other types of game events between this quarterly one, I run two monthly groups - Winter Park (meetup.com/orlando) and Sanford (meetup.com/sanford2040).
