Speaker:
Alexei Zenin, Software Engineer at Uken Games

Title of Talk:
Schemas, Streams and Grocery Stores

Abstract:
All of us go shopping at grocery stores, but how many of us have noticed how similar/different they are to event-driven systems? Find out in this talk which builds off a previously published series on Protobuf and Kafka (https://bit.ly/3qygNLr), further expanding on the critical role that Confluent’s Schema Registry plays in your architecture. We’ll go over the fundamentals of event design, the motivation for Schema Registry, a Spring Boot example, and provide a forward looking view on the collision trajectory of Data Governance, IDLs, and CI/CD.

Bio:
Alexei Zenin is a software engineer in Toronto, Canada, where he has worked at both small startups and large organizations with 100,000+ employees. His experience has taken him from delivering Android apps to help with addiction and mental health, to revitalizing architectures using Kafka, to working abroad internationally in Colombia, spearheading the modernization of processes and solution architecture. Currently, he works as a platform engineer at Uken Games, dealing with all things related to automation, microservices, and event-driven pipelines.
