Presenting for Geeks: Crafting more effective technical presentations
Technical presentations have a reputation for great content being presented in a rather dry way. A more visual presentation style, on the other hand, has a reputation of being entertaining but weak on the content. It is however perfectly possible - and beneficial - to combine these two styles to create more engaging presentations that help the audience remember the important points better. This workshop will show you how to do that and explain how and why this approach works.
We'll be covering the preparation phase, slide design - including the science behind the use of visuals - and will round things off with tips on the delivery.
Participants are asked to bring some paper for their notes and for the exercises. A laptop is not required.
As a software developer, Dirk Haun has worked on systems for electronic payment, service level management, and document conversion. He has presented at tech conferences across Europe and is now helping others express and present their ideas. Dirk lives in Stuttgart, where he's working as a presentation coach and co-organiser of TEDxStuttgart.
The number of participants is limited to 30 people. Therefore you should register as soon as possible.
If you are stuck in one of your current problems or would like to discuss your current approach, please bring 1-3 slides for presenting it and we will try to help.
The room opens at 6:30 pm,shortly afterwards we start with an introduction of the participants and around 7 p.m. the talk begins. Please note that the main entrance closes automatically at 7 p.m. If you come later you have to get our attention somehow.
We have a new room that is more easy to find and hopefully more appropriate. It is the former cantina, located in the second floor (in German that is 1. Stock) directly above Cafe Leitstelle. Use the entrance at the right side of the building (where the gas station is). You have to turn the knob to open the door. Then just climb up on flight of stairs and keep left.
