Keeper Pothole Workshop - New skills, big fun!
For many canyoneer's, the ultimate in canyon obstacles is the Keeper Pothole. Wet or dry, deep and or wide, these bizarre sandstone features have thwarted many canyon adventures.
Join Excursions of Escalante for an introduction to potholes and begin learning the skill sets required to master these incredible features. Escalante is blessed with canyon “keepers” of nearly every shape, size and challenge level imaginable. This allows participants to spend the entire day experiencing (not simulating) a good variety of the pothole “problems” that exist in the wild.PREREQUISITES:
Completion of Technical Canyoneering Course or equivalent experience. This course is not geared for beginner canyoneers.
***You MUST HAVE solid rope skills and be a confident swimmer to participate in this course! NO EXCEPTIONS.
Please inquire if additional information if needed.Course meets at Excursions of Escalante, at 8:00AM. We return between 4pm-4:30pm. Students should plan to be with us for a minimum of 8 hours.
RATE:
$239 Per Person (tax incl) Includes coffee/tea in the morning & ice cream in the afternoon.

Payments are refundable until 30 days prior to course start date. Cancelations after this date are Non-Refundable and Non-Transferable.
All payments incur a non-refundable $50 booking fee.

Transportation to/from training areas is not provided. Roads are rough and an SUV or Truck is needed to access the canyons here in Escalante.THE SHOP:
We stock our favorite gear, equipment and ropes. Course discounts are applied :)WEATHER:
The weather in Escalante can change quickly whether before the course or during it. We expect that you come prepared with rain jacket/gear.

Pothole Fest 2026
Excursions of Escalante, 125 E Main St, Escalante, UT, USIt's Time to Play! 7th Annual Excursions of Escalante Pothole Fest
We are holding this event in August to coincide with the end of the Southwest’s Monsoon season. These are long-warm days and offer potentially good pothole conditions. Stay tuned however, regarding conditions. Everyone can bring their PH tools and enjoy “working” with like minded adventurers in these endearing and challenging canyon obstacles. Saturday evening there will be dinner, music and a Pot Shot competition, focused on accuracy and distance, solo and two person teams. There will also be a contest for greatest distances thrown. Nice prizes too :) Practice-practice!!
***Anyone interested in contributing by leading canyons or assisting in some other way, please don’t hesitate to offer. Attendees drive their vehicles to canyon trailheads. Roads are rough. Plan accordingly with an appropriate vehicle. Standard clearance vehicles CAN NOT access the canyon trailheads.

**Friday: Check-in/shop opens at 7:00AM
**Sat/Sun: Shop opens 7:30AM.
******Mandatory meeting at 8:00AM Friday. Please allow time for paperwork beforehand.**There will Porto Johns provided for event attendees. Multiple hand washing stations will also be provided.
**The Commercial kitchen in the Café/Shop is not open for public use per Utah Health Code. Refrigeration, food prep, cooking, washing of dishes, etc. will need to be done elsewhere. SORRY, NO EXCEPTIONS.
**Please do not use the small bathroom in our shop/café. It is for use by our Tour Guests and Café Customers. Thanks.
**A water filling station will be set up outside for filling bottles/bladders before heading out to the canyons.
**Excursions of Escalante does not rent or lend equipment. No exceptions. Attendees are expected to provide their own camping and canyoneering equipment and ropes. Required list is above.
**Excursions of Escalante DOES NOT have Wi-Fi or a computer for public use. Please enjoy one another's company while here. xoxo:)
