Accessible Gaming: Casual Chat

Details

Our first meeting will be a casual drop-in on Zoom.

Are a gamer with a disability? A game designer interested in improving accessibility of your games? A student studying game design? Feel free to drop in and say hi. Even if it ends up just being two or three of us, it'll be fun and fairly casual.

At the start of the meeting Gary will give a short intro to the topic of accessible gaming. There'll likely be a short version of that introduction at each meeting.

If you are brand new to accessibility, and if you plan to join the meeting, then please read a bit about accessible gaming first. You may find some of the references on this page helpful:

Notes and ground rules:

  • If you are looking for playtesters, then keep in mind that you should compensate them. Please keep those discussions in a private chat, or message each other after the call.
  • Everyone will get a chance to chat. Gary plans to call on people one by one if they want to say or type something.
  • Some people may need more time to express themselves. If you are muted or asked to pause, please understand that the purpose is to allow someone else time to finish their thought.
  • Keep the chat channel free so that Deaf, DeafBlind, or HOH members can use it.
  • Zoom captioning won't be perfect, but it should be okay.
  • It may take a few meetings before we get the right accessibility tools in place.
