ACAC Writing Group

The ACAC writing group is for people with the auto-immune condition Achalasia. It meets once a month usually on a Saturday from 9- 10.30am on Zoom. You don't need to have any experience of writing.

We’ll write together from prompts inspired by nature, the senses, music, poetry, the body, our hopes, dreams, stories and more. We’ll have fun with words, find our favourites, write and tell stories, and there'll be a poem or two included as well.

You can choose what you write about and how you write it. There’s no pressure and you can write as little or as much as you want. You don't have to share what you’ve written, although it can be fun to do this!

There’ll be a break of 15 minutes during the session for refreshments/ time away from the screen.

What you'll get:

- Time to write, to be creative and to focus in a quiet and confidential space held by experienced writing group facilitator, Christine Hollywood. - An opportunity to connect with others and yourself.

We will send out the Zoom link in the days before the meeting. If you don't receive the link, please email us or text message: 07773 379526.

Why writing?

Writing is shown to positively impact health and wellbeing. Since the 1980s, when Dr James Pennebaker found a link between writing and an improvement in health, hundreds of research projects have linked physical and mental health benefits with expressive writing.

It's not clear exactly how it works but it seems to be about finding words; expressing them through writing them down; reflecting on the writing and making meaning; sharing words and the stories that evolve.

Sharing what you write with others can validate yourself and your stories.
