In this session, we’ll demystify the hidden performance pitfalls that can arise when using ORMs and how small assumptions can lead to big inefficiencies. Starting with a live demo in Go as a real-world example, we’ll explore how type mismatches can slow down your queries and how to properly guide your tools for better performance. From there, we’ll dive into the broader realm of SQL database efficiency, learning how to read execution plans, analyze queries, and leverage the right tools to ensure your databases are as lean and fast as possible. VelociCode is a month-long, learning-first game jam hosted by ACM San Antonio in partnership with the Greater Gaming Society, built for folks who want a fun reason to ship a game and meet other builders in the SA tech + game dev scene.
