What we’re about
The Atheist Community of San Jose (ACSJ) is an organization for atheists and like-minded non-believers, founded to develop and support the atheist community and to provide opportunities for socializing, philanthropy, education, and friendship. We promote a positive public perception of atheists and secularists, and work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We typically meet every other Wednesday for a presentation by a guest speaker. Presentations by notable guest speakers and ACSJ members cover a broad spectrum of topics, some examples include atheism, religion, secularism, science, philosophy, and more. Additional events range from attending outside speaking events and debates to hiking, bowling, pub crawling, dinners, and philanthropic activities. We are a community in every sense of the word, with members having diverse talents and interests. We are also a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity organization.
"We are not creating atheists, we are creating a home for them."

Nick Fish, President, American Atheists, on Saving Our Democracy, 10/7/25
Campbell Community Center, 1 W. Campbell Ave Mary Campbell Room, Mary Campbell Room, Campbell, CA, USThe Atheist Community of San Jose (ACSJ) and the Humanist Community in Silicon Valley (HCSV) are pleased to welcome the inspiring President of American Atheists, Nick Fish, visiting California from American Atheist Headquarters in New Jersey. Join us on Tuesday evening October 7, 2025, at the Campbell Community Center if you can, or join the presentation and discussion on Zoom.
From Bridge Building to Ballot Box: A Plan to Save Our Democracy
To confront the rising tide of religious nationalism threatening American democracy, Nick will challenge us to engage in a multi-faceted approach to defend liberty, equality, and the separation of church and state. Drawing on lessons from the Civil Rights Movement and the nation's founding, this moment demands bold action from all of us who believe in a pluralistic, inclusive future.
As president of American Atheists, Nick leads efforts to defend the separation of religion and government and advance equality for atheists and nonreligious Americans.
Since joining the organization in 2012, he has directed advocacy, grassroots organizing, and public policy initiatives, and was appointed president in 2018. A frequent commentator in national media, Nick speaks on issues of secularism, religious nationalism, and the rights of nonreligious people.
