Atheist Community Members—Please vote this week!
Please vote well before Election Day (Tuesday November 3), so that your ballot will not be derailed by anti-California voter suppression efforts or an overwhelmed U.S. Postal Service. We all want every Atheist vote to be counted!
Atheists are about 5% of the U.S. adult population, and Agnostics an additional 6%. We also are more politically active than most other groups. We are a big voting bloc if we use our power!
It is time to make our voices heard in this important midterm election! If you are legally qualified to vote and are registered to vote, then you should have already received your official ballot in the mail, along with California and County explanations of all the Candidates, Measures, and Propositions on your ballot. (Perhaps you can register to vote as late as election day.)
California voters are potentially subject to Voter Suppression tactics carried out by the federal government and some rogue local voting districts. To ensure that your vote is officially counted, you know what to do: Study your options, fill out your official ballot, and submit your ballot in a secure manner this week even before the weekend if possible. The best options are taking your official ballot to your local Voting Center or Drop Box location. You can also sign up for “Where’s My Ballot?” This informs you when your official ballot has been received, and when your vote has been counted.
Be sure to fill out your ballot and the envelope carefully and accurately! We must sign the outside of the envelope (not print our name) and also write the date on the outside of the envelope. If the envelope is not filled out correctly, our vote can be invalidated!
Beware of trick Measures and Propositions which sound innocuous, but are actually designed to kick eligible citizens off the voting rolls in the future! Based on the Santa Clara Community Voter Information Guide and California’s Official Voter Information Guide, Measure 39 is an apparent Voter Suppression Measure.
Some Measures might cripple the State and Local Governments from raising income in the future for urgently needed services and projects. Possible examples are Measures 41 and 43, as explained in the State and County Voter Information Guides. Members of the Atheist Community of San Jose, let us all make a big difference in this election! Vote early, this week if possible, so that you cannot be prevented from voting on election day.
Note: The Atheist Community of San Jose is a nonpartisan, nonprofit 501c3 organization that does not support or oppose any political candidate or party. Obviously, make your own choices and BE SURE TO VOTE SOON!
