What we’re about
The Atheist Community of San Jose (ACSJ) is an organization for atheists and like-minded non-believers, founded to develop and support the atheist community and to provide opportunities for socializing, philanthropy, education, and friendship. We promote a positive public perception of atheists and secularists, and work with other organizations in pursuit of common goals.
We typically meet every other Wednesday for a presentation by a guest speaker. Presentations by notable guest speakers and ACSJ members cover a broad spectrum of topics, some examples include atheism, religion, secularism, science, philosophy, and more. Additional events range from attending outside speaking events and debates to hiking, bowling, pub crawling, dinners, and philanthropic activities. We are a community in every sense of the word, with members having diverse talents and interests. We are also a 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity organization.
"We are not creating atheists, we are creating a home for them."

See all- Is the "Rise of the Nones" Over in the US? Not So Fast!Neutra House, Los Altos, CA
Recent demographic data shows that the long, 20-year decline in religious identification and affiliation in the U.S. may be slowing down—or even reversing. Does this mean the so-called “Rise of the Nones” (people who answer "none" then asked about their religious affiliation) is coming to an end? Are we heading back to the more religious culture of the 1950s? Not so fast! This talk examines long-term generational shifts and cultural patterns that suggest the apparent “Return of the Nones” to religious belief and institutional religions is not the religious revival that some religious leaders and communities have been hoping for. Instead, it appears to be a temporary response to broader cultural, political, and economic instability—one that may not last.
Professor Drescher teaches religious studies at Santa Clara University, where she also directs the Living Religion Collaborative, a place-based center for student and faculty engagement with local religious and nonreligious communities. A scholar of non/religion as it is experienced by ordinary people in everyday life, she is the author of Choosing Our Religion: The Spiritual Lives of American Nones (Oxford 2016) and numerous other books and articles on lived religious and nonreligious experience.
