What we’re about

This group is for good-to-great acoustic Folk instrument musiciabs. We will be learning orchestral arrangements of our styles of music, as we celebrate the acoustic instrument

The goal is to find musicians to join NYCFIO: the New York Dity Acoustic Folk Instruments Orchestra. If invited to join NYCFIO you will be part an all-acoustic folk musicians' group that performs throughout the boroughs at public events. Arrangements will be fresh, entertaining and exciting-adding a new dimension to your playing as part of an orchestra. Concerts feature soloists, "dueling instruments" sections, unusual Behringer(R)TM FX, and innovative approaches to using counterpoint, echo box, phasing and flanging, and harmony chords

NYCFIO seeks grants, as well as paid bookings, and we take the best work into the studio. Every possible ethnocultural folk style is welcome.

Come and play and grow. Not really a good group for beginners. It's preferred that you read music. We use chord charts to supplement.

This activity is an extension of my many years professional work and my studies at Julliard, Mannes School of Music, the JTS Cantorial Librsry, and as a vetted Research Readsr at the American Folklife Center and the Lomax Colkections in Washington DC.

You need to have an interest in all styles of playing, from songs that are decades or even centuries old to contemporary songs that are known today. We shall learn about all the blues, classical, rock, jazz, Latin, and folk styles both pluses and minuses, often doing research improvisations in our orchestrations. You don't have to already know all of these styles, but you should bring a willingness to learn about them.

Members of NYCFIO will be selected From the meetup, based on dedication, flexibility, and a pursuit of perfection. For now, come to Meetup sessions and learn together. When you ask to join the Meetup group, name three music styles you consider great and memorable. I was trained in the Arturo Toscanini style of conducting and so that's me.
