What we're about

This meetup group is primarily for actors and performers and for those aspiring to join the industry.

What we are about: we are about building a community of actors and performers in London that can come together to build and extend their acting skills through weekly acting exercises and performance. The acting techniques and exercises we use in the classes are based on the famous teachings of Sanford Meisner.

Every week we run drop in classes at our own studio, right on Brick Lane in Shoreditch. During these classes we do acting exercises that are designed to progressively improve specific acting skills. Aside from acting exercises we work on scenes and monologues and perform these in front of each other and with each other.

Aside from actors and performers, the group would also be useful to anyone who wants to get in touch with their emotional reality, train and gain control over their emotional instrument. Hence, they would be useful to anyone who wants to become more confident public speakers and conversationalists.

We also run yoga, meditation, English pronunciation and many other actor support and wellbeing classes. This year we will be introducing filmmaking classes. So if you are keen to get into this field, our resident cinematographers and directors run weekly classes for you to join.

Who should join: Anyone who wants to act and perform! Anyone who wants to make films. You don’t need any prior experience as an actor or filmmaker to join. The group will benefit anyone who is interested in getting in touch with their instinctive emotional self.

Throughout the year we run special classes and workshops such as Scene Analysis workshops. During these we work on scenes from famous plays, analyse what the scene is about and then act it ourselves. We also run Audition Technique classes. During these we work on specific auditioning techniques that will help you win over casting agents and managers.

From time to time we invite guest speakers from the film and theatre industry who will share with us their experiences in the field and hopefully give us insight into this very competitive world of acting and theatre.

The meetup is a great networking opportunity where you will be able to meet and collaborate with other actors and performers on projects, such as short films and theatrical productions.

Throughout the year we run community building events that will include going to theatre productions, watching films as a group and even making our own short films.

Our classes have been described in many ways: fun, funny, emotional, touching, uncomfortable, sad, edgy and frustrating - but almost never boring or dull.

So join us, and let's just act - for real.
